Solar Thermal
How Solar Thernal Works
Energy from the sun in the form of radiation is collected by specially mounted panels also known as collectors. Glycol fluid in the collectors is passed through a heat exchanger and pumped directly into a specially designed twin coil water storage cylinder. Water surrounding the coils which would otherwise be heated by a burner feed (i.e. boiler) has now been heated for free.
Mounting
Cambridge Eco Living put a great deal of emphasis on installing equipment that is in keeping with the aesthetic nature of your home. We are favoured for our attractive product lines and can offer advice on various mountable and design solutions.
Tubes or Panels
Collectors come in two forms, either flat panels or evacuated glass tubes. Each system has its advantages in terms of price, efficiency, aesthetics and lifespan.
As qualified heating installers we will always advise on the best solution to suit your needs.
Controlling your Solar
A stylish wall mounted control monitors the temperature of the solar collector and of the cylinder. When sufficient solar energy is available the solar control switches on the solar pump to charge the cylinder.
If there is insufficient solar energy available the control will automatically determine when an auxiliary heat source is required
Planning
Planning approval for installing a solar thermal system has recently been lifted, unless;
Your property is a listed building then installation it is likely to require an application for listed building consent, even where planning permission is not needed.
Your property is in a conservation area then planning consent is required when panels are to be fitted on the principal or side elevation walls and they are visible from the highway.
